Zindagi Fellowship Graduation and Reflection Meet 2023

Project Mukti is thrilled to announce our upcoming “Graduation and Reflection Ceremony” for our dedicated Zindagi Fellows.

Join us in commemorating their remarkable achievements as we bid them farewell and wish them the best in launching their businesses in the upcoming year.

Throughout the four months of the Zindagi Fellowship, our fellows immersed themselves in hands-on training, covering essential aspects from language, digital and financial literacy to entrepreneurship skills and personal development.

Together, we shared laughter, tears, and perseverance, working side by side to transform their business plans and budget sheets into reality. We are proud to celebrate the commitment and determination of our eight fellows who persevered through tough times, and illness, and made their personal growth a priority to successfully complete our program.

Our faculty and fellows have weathered challenges, including bad internet connections, technological issues, harsh summers, and monsoons. Now, we proudly gather to acknowledge our eight Zindagi Fellows, to learn from their inspiring journeys, reflect on their growth, and extend our heartfelt wishes as they embark on their path as aspiring entrepreneurs.

As they step into the next phase of their lives, we will continue to closely follow their post-Zindagi Fellowship journeys. Stay connected with us to witness their inspiring progress and success stories.

Hindi Wikipedia edit-a-thon

As part of Babasaheb Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s 130th birth anniversary celebrations, we invite you to join our Wikipedia Editathon #HindiWiki on 29 April 2021.

It’s a one-day event where we are celebrating our Dalit Poets and writers who had contributed and continue to contribute to the immense knowledge of Dalit Literature that has been invisibilized by the oppressive and dominant society. Their struggle and work reminds us of the glorious legacy of Dalits who fought against the oppressive system and carved a space for the young aspiring Dalit writers and poets.

We invite scholars, academicians, and students to take part and enrich the Wikipedia platform with amazing Dalit Hindi writers like Anita Bharti, Vimal Thorat, Baby Haldar, Kanwal Bharti and many more.

Join us to create our knowledge in our language so everyone in our community can understand the struggle and conviction of these forerunners.

Dalit Food Festival at the Society for Rural Education and Development (SRED)

  • Society for Rural Education and Development (SRED) (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

This Ambedkar Jayanti, Dr. Natesan Burnad Fatima of the Society for Rural Education and Development(SRED), along with Dalit History Month is organizing a Dalit Food Festival that brings together Dalit history with its special cuisine.

The program includes a photo exhibition featuring Dalit culture and history for school children and an array of traditional Dalit foods. Through this, elements of Dalit history that are forgotten will be depicted in a way that is exciting for young children. Dalit children are unaware of Dalit History and this event, held on Dr. B R Ambedkar’s birthday gives us the opportunity to bring stories and teachings of Dalit leaders, Dalit history, and Dalit food culture to the mainstream in a fun way.

Dr. Natesan Burnad Fatima is the founder and Executive Director of the Society for Rural Education and Development which has been working among the Dalit (untouchable) communities in Tamil  Nadu, India for the past 37 years. SRED mobilizes Dalit women, unorganized workers, farmers, sex workers and Mathamma women who are dedicated to temples to stand up against Human Rights violations and demand their Rights. To achieve these goals, Dr. Fatima carries out consistent fieldwork, capacity building and legal assistance at the grass root level.

Dalit History Month at Shri Siddhartha Vidyalaya, Dholka

Shri Siddharth Vidhyalay, Dholka is one of the first boarding schools of Dholka. Established in the year 1948, by founders Balvantbhai and Govindbhai, the school has educated many Dalit students since its founding. Every year, many educated Dalits and social activists contribute in cash or kind to support this beautiful school and the 250-300 students that study there.  Students of Shri Siddharth Vidhyalay come from different villages and blocks and are from various social and economic backgrounds. The school has been a place where poor farmers who cannot afford to send their children to school can send their children for a good chance at an education and a future. The school was once visited by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar

This year, Dalit History Month will be celebrated in Shri Siddharth Vidhyalay, with participation from staff and students.

The event is organized by Preeti Mahendrabhai Vaghela who is a coordinator at Navsarjan Trust, a Gujarat-based, non-political Human Rights Organization established over 27 years ago. Preeti has been actively involved in the Dalit movement in Gujarat. Navsarjan Trust is well known across the country and internationally for their work with the Dalit movement in Gujarat and India.

Young Bodhisattva Training Retreat with Dh. Lokamitra and Dh. Vivekratna

  • Shakyamuni Buddha Vihar (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

The Young Boddhisatva Training retreat led by Dhammachari Lokamitra and Dhammachari Vivekratna will focus on cultivating awakened leadership qualities in students and activists who want to bring the potent ingredient of Buddhist wisdom to the work that they do.

Dh. Lokamitra is the Chairman of the Nagaloka Centre. He has spent many years in India doing work that supports the Dalit Buddhist community in their struggle against Hindu caste prejudice and its disregard for their basic rights. Dh. Lokamitra draws great inspiration from the life and work of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar. The Nagaloka Centre provides an invaluable chance to thousands of young Dalits. He will be educating young attendees on how Buddhism can help support their democratic rights to liberty, equality, and fraternity. Dh. Vivekratna, treasurer of Nagaloka Centre will also be leading some sessions.

The event is organized by Amit Kumar. An alumnus of Nagaloka Training Institute, Nagpur, he received his training in Buddhism, both in Nagaloka and at the Deer Park Buddhist Center in Himachal Pradesh. During his stay in Deer Park, he learned about the Mahayana tradition and about Bodhisattva Vision. He also learned about global warming and environmentalism, eco-farming and building a sustainable community. Not satisfied with what he learned, he decided to become a monk for three months but soon realized that he wanted to do something more for the society he lived in and went to Sri Lanka to learn Theravada Buddhism. After returning to India he chose to work closely with communities, focussing primarily on Buddhism against casteism.

He has traveled to many Buddhist countries to learn more about Buddhism and now works at Sankasya where he dedicates his time to doing work relating to women empowerment, education, and youth development. He also works with survivors of
domestic violence.
